Best Robotics Kits for High School Students

Robotics is a field of modern day science which fascinates everyone, from a high school kid to a graduating engineer. Therefore, no other field of science has been diversified like that of robotics. Robotics has become a vital part of human being because it can be found everywhere .For the reason that from medical surgeries to space missions similarly from home automation to working as a firefighter. Many innovative young minds put down their ideas into realities for the betterment of mankind. I must say that there is yet more to be done in the field. To bring ideas of young and innovative minds into reality probably they need a good start. Certainly you will need the  Best Robotics Kits for High School Students.

So, where to start with ?

Most importantly, the upcoming generation is showing a keen interest towards robotics. Consequently, they want to know how a robot work. Likewise how are these made while how are they programmed to do certain work fascinates them. Above all major question is “Where to start with furthermore what to buy as a beginner?” That’s where Best Robotics Kits for High School Students come in to help.

So, the one stop solution for the question is Arduino. For a beginner, almost the Arduino serves as the stepping stone in the field of robotics. Basically for a beginner student interested in robotics almost Arduino is a must.

What’s an Arduino?

The name looks much fancy for the reason that the company belongs to Italy. Most importantly this company designs micro controller boards of different form and sizes such as Uno, Nano, and Mega. These boards are of  different specifications and are used for different projects. Now those who don’t know what a micro controller is just keep in mind that these read data and process them. For the reason that they process in the form of input and output consequently programmed by a user.

Arduino UNO board

The most used and accepted board of Arduino is the Arduino Uno.

Specification of Arduino UNO :

Micro controller – ATmega328p. Operating Voltage – 5V.  Input Voltage (recommended) – (7-12)V .  Input Voltage (limit) – (6-20)V. Digital I/O Pins –14 (of which 6 provide PWM output). PWM Digital I/O Pins – 6 . Analog Input Pins – 6. DC Current per I/O Pin 20 mA . DC Current for 3.3V Pin – 50 mA . Flash Memory – 32 KB (ATmega328P). SRAM -2 KB (ATmega328P). Clock Speed – 16 MHz . LED_BUILTIN 13.

Arduino IDE:

For the reason that before that micro controller is basically a small computer. For the reason that with a processor, memory, programmable input/output peripherals all fabricated on a single chip. Most importantly this works as  you code. As a result the question arises “How?”. Consequently, the answer to this is the Arduino IDE developed by the company. Probably you can get the  IDE from their own website. The programming language code is much easy to learn hence one can learn it within 2-3 days. Seems like if you are having a basic knowledge in C programming ,it will be easier to learn.

How it works:

How the programming language is integrated with the board and how it is brought into use?” The board serves as an input-output platform. With the help of codes input and output slots are assigned. What is the output for the data obtained from the input is also written in the codes. Then with the help with a cable the data is uploaded to the board.  With the help of different slots present on the board, one can attach different sensors and modules basing upon your project.

Beginner’s Kit:

There are various type of kit  for high school robotics available in the market but i am giving  here a brief idea about the kit required by a basic beginner into robotics.

Arduino-UNO,  Push-Buttons, LED s, DIODE 1N4007,NPN-TRANSISTORS, Ceramic-Capacitors, 9V-Battery, Male-to-Male-Jumper-Wires,

Buzzer, Photo transistor, Potentiometer, Temperature-Sensor, Seven-Segment, DC-Motors, Breadboard.

Arduino-UNO :

Arduino Uno is a micro controller board based on the ATmega328P. It has 14 digital input/output pins, 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz quartz crystal, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header and a reset button. Most importantly about buying Uno board is that probably the original ones made by the company itself are costly.  Likewise the clones can be bought at Rs 450-550. Furthermore beware of SMD’s for the reason that  they are made in China. So, I advice you to buy a board with a removable IC one. In contrast boards made in India are almost same to the original one.Arduino UNO's Front and Back

Push-Buttons:

A push-button  or simply button is a simple switch mechanism for controlling some aspect of a machine or a process.

LED s:

A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor device that emits visible light when an electric current passes through it.

Diode 1N4007:

A diode is a device which let the current to flow only in direction.

NPN Transistors:

NPN Transistors are three-terminal, three-layer devices that can function as either amplifiers or electronic switches.

Resistors NPN-TRANSISTORS:

NPN Transistors are three-terminal, three-layer devices that can function as either amplifiers or electronic switches

Resistors:

The resistor is a passive electrical component to create resistance in the flow of electric current. NPN Transistors are three-terminal, three-layer devices that can function as either amplifiers or electronic switches.

Ceramic-Capacitors:

A ceramic capacitor is a fixed-value capacitor in which ceramic material acts as the dielectric. It consists of two or more alternating layers of ceramic and a metal layer acting as the electrodes..

9V-Battery

The nine-volt battery, or 9-volt battery, is a common size of battery. It has a rectangular prism shape with rounded edges and a polarised snap connector at the top.

Male-to-Male-Jumper-Wires

Male to male jumper wire, come into use while connecting female header pin of any development board (like Arduino) to other development board or breadboard. The nine-volt battery, or 9-volt battery, is a common size of battery. It has a rectangular prism shape with rounded edges and a polarised snap connector at the top.

Buzzer

A buzzer or beeper is an audio signalling device, which may be mechanical, electromechanical, or piezoelectric.

Photo transistor

Photo transistor is a semiconductor light sensor formed from a basic transistor with a transparent cover that provides much better sensitivity.

Potentiometer

A potentiometer is a three terminal resistor in which the resistance is manually varied to control the flow of electric current. The potentiometer consists of three terminals among which two are fixed .

Temperature-Sensor

A temperature sensor is a device that provides temperature measurement through an electrical signal.

Seven-Segment

Seven segment displays are the output display devices that provide a way to display information in the form of image or text.

DC-Motors

A motor is an electrical machine which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. The principle of working of a DC motor is that “whenever a current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, it experiences a mechanical force”.

Breadboard

A breadboard is a reusable solder-less device used to build a prototype of an electronic circuit and for experimenting with circuit designs.Images of KIT mentioned above

Projects:

Certainly, this is the kit you will require as a beginner. Most importantly this always depends upon your project.

For the reason that if you are going to perform the basic experiment of Blinking a LED.

You will need -1. Arduino Uno Board . 2. A LED and some jumper cables.

Likewise if you are going to detect whether the colour is Black/White you will need an IR module instead.

After gaining knowledge finally, you can put on your ideas to reality. As a result with different sensors and modules you can  prepare your dream project.  Probably it will be easy, if you find students with the same interest and form a club at your high school. Most noteworthy this will give your team to showcase their charisma at various events .
