Established in 1958,IIT Bombay is located at Powai, a suburb in north eastern Mumbai, between the Vihar and Powai lakes.

IIT Bombay lies very close to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park and due to this there have been sightings of panthers, Leopards and Gharial crocodiles along the banks of Powai lake.
